The Doctor was the protagonist of the television show Doctor Who.
Ashlyn Oswin noted that her and the Tourists' adventures seemed to echo the adventures of the Twelfth Doctor and his companion, Clara Oswald.

- Lady Aesculapius and the Tourist are both characters heavily inspired by the Doctor.
- While the Doctor is depicted as a fictional character in the 10,000 Dawns universe, the universe the Doctor appears in, the Totality, has appeared in the franchise before, and the Doctor Who franchise has crossed over with 10,000 Dawns multiple times.
- In A Possible Prelude to an Ending, there are multiple references to Lady Aesculapius possibly having met the Doctor. Namely, she paraphrases a line from the story Hell Bent about all stories happening and makes a note that she needs to "meet back up with you again, someday" when seeing a poster of, "a woman dashing into a blue box". However, the Doctor is never named due to the fact Arcbeatle Press does not have the license and thus this is unconfirmed.
